Childhood Dreams

Growing up, my Mom took me to the library every Saturday. I would borrow a stack of books for the week. I remember the smell of that library vividly, the sound of the stamping cards as they put them through the machine, the crinkling of the dust jackets as we put our books in the book bag. I’d take them home, take out all the date due cards and play librarian (for hours).

Years later, when I began working at a library I surprised my co-workers by tearing up as I stamped my first due date cards. I’m sure they thought I was silly, but for me it was the fulfilment of something that I had dreamed about.

I was checking out the website: Gone Reading and came across this:

It’s a Librarian play set and it made me think of those days growing up. Of course libraries have come a long way from date-due cards, and card catalogues but I still think its would make a lovely gift for a child who is as book crazy as I was:)

Be sure to check out the GoneReading Website too, lots of great gifts for book lovers and the proceeds from items sold go towards building new libraries and helping reading-related charities.
